UNSIKA Hosts BKS PTN Barat International Seminar 2026 on Sustainable Teacher Development and Cross-Cultural Literacy

Karawang, June 18, 2026 – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang (UNSIKA) successfully hosted the Seminar Internasional Pertemuan Sela BKS PTN Barat 2026 on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Carrying the theme “Sustainable Teacher Development and Cross-Cultural Literacy: Navigating Future Pedagogies in a Changing Era,” the seminar brought together academics, education practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to discuss the future of teacher education in an increasingly interconnected world.

The hybrid event was held at the Syekh Quro Hall of UNSIKA and via Zoom Meeting, attracting 135 registered participants from both online and offline channels. The seminar was also attended by 22 Deans and Vice Deans from member universities of BKS PTN Barat, as well as 17 presenters whose papers will be published in the conference proceedings.

The seminar began with keynote sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by parallel presentation sessions from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Representing the Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), Ana Budi Kuswandani, S.S., M.Si., Head of the Subdirectorate for the Facilitation of Teacher Professional Education Programs, delivered a presentation entitled “Sustainable Teacher Professional Development and the Future of Teacher Education in Indonesia.” She highlighted the importance of continuous professional growth and adaptive teacher education policies in preparing educators for future challenges.

The international keynote speaker, Dr. Jonthon Coulson, a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow, presented on “Cross-Cultural Literacy in Education.” His presentation emphasized the growing need for cultural understanding, global awareness, and intercultural competence as essential components of contemporary educational practice.

Throughout the seminar, participants engaged in discussions on innovative teaching strategies, sustainable professional development, and the integration of cross-cultural perspectives into educational systems. The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange and academic collaboration among institutions within and beyond the BKS PTN Barat network.

By bringing together educational leaders, scholars, and practitioners, the seminar reinforced the shared commitment to advancing teacher development and preparing educators to navigate the opportunities and challenges of future pedagogies in a rapidly changing era.
